few days ago I decided to take the endless search for a global mobile software that was compatible with my PDA (BlackBerry) and now my search finally ended! After several attempts and after trying various software that did not fit because they had a limited compatibility with various mobile devices, I found a good planetarium, quite customizable, and compatible with most devices that support Java applications. This is Mobile StarChart:
http:/ / mobilestarchart.sourceforge.net
The program, once downloaded and installed (you have to pay attention only to the version of your device - MIDP 1 or 2) shows a white screen where you can start the sky map or customize the software with the inclusion of coordinates geographical and various display options for the map (magnetudine limit lines of the constellations, planets and more).
The sky map also shows intuitive controls, like zoom and increased magnetudine limit that are controlled using the numeric keypad. Also interesting is the search for objects (Messier, constellations, planets) which can be accessed via the menu on the map. It also emphasizes the ability to update and add additional catalogs. Of course, the view is not the best, but the utility of having a planetarium at hand when we look at night, overcome all the difficulties!
could well replace the PC or custom star charts with this handy program to be put directly on our PDA / phone.
